Ian H. Wiatric

About Me

A brief summary of where I've been, where I'm going, and who I've become in the process.

Where I've been

I started my passion for technology by asking endless questions about the world around me, which happened to be the New York metro area. That curiosity has stuck and ultimately led me to study Chemical Engineering and Biochemistry at Northeastern University.

Plenty of colleges allow work-study programs. However there are exceedingly few that enable—never mind encourage—getting 2 years of full-time experience during an engineering undergraduate. Combining learning with doing offered immediate opportunities to apply classwork at interesting companies across the United States.

After graduating in 2024 I decided to explore a new part of the country by taking a position in Huntsville, Alabama to be part of rocket city's namesake work.

Where I'm going

I am looking to apply my hardware-rich aerospace experience to challenging problems in the energy sector. I'm open to any industry with extraordinary leverage on human standards of living and pace of technological progress. I've grown comfortable in both large manufacturing and pointed research settings, because both are usually necessary to solve the most meaningful problems.

I have a particular interest in cryogenics, control systems, and nuclear technology. In addition to these interests, I'm aware of how much I have yet to explore.

I've enjoyed the welcoming and unique community here in Huntsville. Although moving would be bittersweet, I am certainly open to embracing my next opportunity wherever it may be.

Who I am

I believe it's an absolute privilege to be alive at this point in history. We have many of the tools we need to interrogate the world around us, but not enough to be satisfied. We have the experience to guess at what can be discovered, but not enough to predict it. And I get the opportunity to contribute some small piece to the puzzle.

I spend my free time on long-distance running and pseudo-artistic tinkering. I have a green-enough thumb and strongly prefer typing with them on split ortholiner colemak keyboards. Top three favorite games (in no particular order) are Scythe, Factorio, and Stellaris.
